Oily Skin
Follow these steps and use the pointers below :-D Do Steps 1, 4, and 5 before you put your makeup on.

Black = do this daily
Green = do this twice a week*

Step 1: Cleanse. Oily skin is like the mild version of troubled or acne prone skin, which means if you want you can use products specially made for acne prone skin. But really, you should use a cleanser that goes deep into your pores, because that is where the oil...um...is. Or originates anyway. Wow, I'm good with words. Not. Anyways, you should only really wash your face twice a day and no more, because if you do it more than 3x the oil starts building up a lot more and it just gets worse. Wash it right after you wake up (if you use cold water it will also help you wake up--not that it's enjoyable) and at night or after school or something. I tend to wash it in the morning and just wait until my face is all nasty and covered with oil. Then it's time to wash! :-D

Step 2: Exfoliate.  This is something you do in the shower. Take the exfoliator, rub it on face, or even body if it's one of those all over things. Rub the beads into your skin, but not too hard. They're only there to take away dead skin and residue and what not, not to irritate your skin.

Step 3: Mask. Masks are just plain fun. Try to get one that will make your pores smaller. This means less oil and blackheads. Although, masks are kind of universal things, meaning it doesn't usually matter what your skin type is. White Clay Masks are really cool because they seriously go to town on minimizing pores. Mud masks are fun, fun, fun to do with friends, plus they make your skin nice and soft.

Step 4: Tone.  This is what actually kills the pimples. See Awesome Products for some really cool products that you can use that purposely fight pimples instead of toner (I guess they are toners...I dunno it doesn't say on some bottles...), to be used once or twice a day (as needed) right after you wash your face and it's all raw and red.

Step 5: Moisturize (during the day).  Tinted moisty is really, really cool. It's like a light foundation only it feels like moisturizer! Definitely get one with SPF in it (see here for more on SPF) because you're killing two birds with one stone. You also DEFINITELY want one that is oil-free. I wouldn't get a crappy thing of tinted m. either. It's really one of those things that needs to be of really, really good quality. But if you're loyal to your foundation, then get one that's fragrance free. You don't need to apply moisturizer more than once or twice a day.

Step 6: Moisturize (during the night).  Something all skin-types need--get one that will reduce lines and other "signs of aging". A really good one will make your skin baby-soft in le morning.

Oily Skin Product Recommendations

  • Carry around some oil absorbing sheets with you in your purse to just use whenever you pop in the bathroom to powder your nose, if your oil problem is really that bad. They work. (I use this rice paper stuff from my FAVORITE Burt's Bees (link))
  • make sure all the makeup and skin care products you use are oil-free.

* for exfoliate, do it every day in the summer time, and use a tougher exfoliater.
