Shadow
Applying
Before putting on your standard powder eye shadow, be sure to put on a
translucent powder or concealer on your eyelids. This makes sure it doesn't cake up after an hour or
so, and smoothes out your working surface. And then put it on after you've
finished applying the eye shadow and it's dried (if it's cream). This sets
the color and makes it last longer. Ah, translucent powder. So many uses.
When it comes to cream eye shadow, it's a bit more complicated to put on.
First, take a skinny liner brush and coat it with the eye shadow from the
little box (using your finger may SEEM easier but actually it's a lot
harder, especially if you want to line your eyes). Take a compact mirror
and put it in your lap. Looking down into it, start lining at the inner
corner of your eye at the root of your lashes. Pause halfway through, let
it dry, and put some more cream on your brush and start again.
Colors
Most colors (purple, green, and blue) are universal and can be used on
all skin. If I were you I'd just get one of those 8-color powder palettes
and then experiment with them. If you want a sheer color, you should wet
your brush before you apply. Colors that should NEVER be worn despite skin
color and what they say in magazines is red (it looks like a weird rash on
your eyes, although pink is fine), orange and yellow (two colors that only
work on LeAnn Rimes, really).
Care
Since your eyes wrinkle first when you get old, you have to baby them when
they're young so you'll have minimum wrinkles. Be gentle when you take off
makeup around your eyes. Always wear at least SPF 15 around your eyes. Put
on eye cream before you go to bed at night, and when you wake up in the
morning put on one of those gel eye masks. Actually, you only really have
to put it on when you haven't gotten a lot of sleep and your eyes are all
puffy. It works wonders. If you're too cheap to get an actual gel mask,
just keep two big spoons in the fridge. Personally, I like to wake up, put
on the mask, and get on the computer. It makes me feel like I'm
multitasking.
